Iodine Protects Against Fluoride Toxicity

The toxicity of modern life is impacting iodine levels and in the countries that fluoridate their water this impact is maximized. It is well known that the toxic halides: fluoride and bromide, having structure similar to iodine, can competitively inhibit iodine absorption and binding in the body. All the halogens use the same receptors in the body so fluoride’s danger for people is centered in great part on this fact.

Americans and Brazilians, who are more exposed to fluoride than other populations, have a desperate need for more iodine. Taking iodine in its nascent form is not only the best way to increase iodine levels in the safest and most effective way possible for adults and children whose thyroids are already compromised, but it will also greatly aid in ridding the body of dangerous fluoride, bromide, chlorine, perchlorates and heavy metals.

Iodine is extremely important since the cells need it to regulate their metabolism. Without it, people are known to suffer from swollen glands in the throat, thyroid diseases, increased fluoride toxicity, decreased fertility rates, increased infant mortality rates, and (with severe deficiency) mental retardation. It has been theorized that iodine deficiency is a causal factor of ADHD in babies of iodine-deficient mothers.

Iodine intake immediately increases the excretion of bromide, fluoride, and some heavy metals including mercury and lead. Bromide and fluoride are not removed by any other chelator or detoxifying technique.

Dr. Kenezy Gyula Korhaz states that iodine chelates heavy metals such as mercury, lead, cadmium, aluminum, and halogens such as fluoride and bromide, thus decreasing their iodine-inhibiting effects,[2] especially of the halogens. Iodine has the highest atomic weight of all the common halogens (126.9). Iodine is the only option when it comes to removing these toxic haloids from the thyroid and even the pineal gland where fluoride concentrates, especially when there is a deficiency of iodine in the body.

“The human pineal gland contains the highest concentration of fluoride in the body. Fluoride is associated with depressed pineal melatonin synthesis and this depression increases one’s chance of cancer.”

Dr. David Brownstein says that fluoride inhibits the ability of the thyroid gland to concentrate iodine and research has shown that fluoride is much more toxic to the body when there is iodine deficiency present. Brownstein says that after only one dose of iodine, the excretion of fluoride increases by 78%.[3]

On January 7, 2011, the US Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) proposed lowering the recommended level used in the water fluoridation program to 0.7 ppm, because of the very high incidence of dental fluorosis among American children. An amazing 41% of ALL American children aged 12-15 are now impacted by this condition.

Sodium fluoride is commonly used as a rat poison. Globalists and eugenicists have decided to add it to water supplies with the message to the public that it is good for teeth, despite warnings from the ADA stating that young children risk a disease called dental fluorosis.

After hailing water fluoridation as one of the 10 greatest health achievements of the 20th Century (CDC), the government is calling for a reduction in the amount of fluoride it adds to public water supplies, citing its negative effect on teeth when promotion of healthy teeth is the basic reason given for adding fluoride to the water.

An August 2006 Chinese study found that fluoride in drinking water damages children’s liver and kidney functions. One of the strongest physiological effects of fluorides in drinking water (e.g. hydrofluorosilicic acid) is on the kidney, a point to consider in light of increased rates of kidney failure during recent decades.[4]

Kidney disease markedly increases an individual’s susceptibility to fluoride toxicity. In healthy adults, the kidneys are able to excrete approximately 50% of an ingested dose of fluoride. However, in adults with kidney disease, the kidneys may excrete as little as 10-20%, and young children may only excrete 15% of an ingested dose—thus increasing the body burden of fluoride and increasing an individual’s susceptibility to fluoride poisoning (e.g. renal osteodystrophy).

Scientific evidence over the past 50 plus years has shown that sodium fluoride shortens our life span, promotes various cancers and mental disturbances, and most importantly, makes humans stupid, docile, and subservient, all in one neat little package.

A Scientific American study “concluded that fluoride can subtly alter endocrine function, especially in the thyroid.” The National Research Council of the National Academies in a 2006 report on page 266 said, “In summary, evidence of several types indicates that fluoride affects normal endocrine function or response; the effects of the fluoride-induced changes vary in degree and kind in different individuals. Fluoride is therefore an endocrine disruptor in the broad sense of altering normal endocrine function.”

Halogen Displacement

The mechanism behind “halogen displacement” was probably best described by J. C. Jarvis, M.D. (Folk Medicine, Henry Holt & Co., 1958, HB, p. 136), who wrote: “The clinical activity of any one of these four halogens is in inverse proportion to its atomic weight. This means that any one of the four can displace the element with a higher atomic weight, but cannot displace an element with a lower atomic weight. For example, flourine can displace chlorine, bromine, and iodine because fluorine has a lower atomic weight than the other three. Similarly, chlorine can displace bromine and iodine because they both have a higher atomic weight.” Likewise, bromine can displace iodine from the body because iodine has a higher atomic weight. A reverse order is not possible.

European doctors used fluoride as a thyroid-suppressing medication for patients with HYPER-thyroidism (over-active thyroid). Fluoride was utilized because it was found to be effective at reducing the activity of the thyroid gland—even at doses as low as 2 mg/day.

The regular use of iodine will go a very long way toward mitigating the damages done in our bodies by the fluoride that we are exposed to. The Nascent form is the easiest way of increasing iodine levels for adults and children whose thyroids are already compromised by fluoride. Nascent Iodine is the atomic form and it is special. Nascent has the advantage of being in the I¹ atomic (as opposed to I² or I³ molecular forms) form meaning that there is no digestion, no breaking down of molecules of iodine. It is already broken down through an electromagnetic process.

For heavy lifting when needing iodine in large quantities for transdermal application (painting the breasts daily with iodine for breast cancer is one example) I recommend the age old Lugol’s formula. Liquid forms of minerals always seem better than solid pill forms because the body has an easier time digesting and absorbing liquid forms with the nascent form ready to be utilized instantly in any way the body needs. Some tissues utilize iodide and others iodine and the thyroid always needs atomic iodine to make T3 and T4 metabolic thyroid hormones.

[1] Fluoride is associated with cancer and it also accumulates in the thyroid as well as the pineal gland, an important hormone control center. Dr. Jennifer Luke found out that the pineal gland which produces serotonin and melatonin was also a calcifying tissue, like the teeth and the bones, so she hypothesized it would concentrate fluoride to very high levels. Luke had 11 cadavers analyzed in the UK and found very high levels of fluoride in the calcium hydroxy apatite crystals produced by the gland. The average was 9000 ppm and went as high as 21,000 in one case. These levels are equal to or higher than fluoride levels in the bones of people suffering from skeletal fluorosis. Luke hypothesizes that one of the four enzymes needed to convert the amino acid tryptophan (from the diet) into melatonin is being inhibited by fluoride. Melatonin is responsible for regulating all kinds of activities including the onset of puberty. It is thought that the fall of melatonin levels acts like a biological clock and triggers the onset of puberty. In her gerbil study she found that the high fluoride treated animals were reaching puberty earlier than the low fluoride ones. Considering the seriousness of a possible interference by fluoride on a growing child’s pineal gland (and for that matter, elderly pineal glands) underlines the need for higher iodine intake to increase fluoride elimination.

    Garbage. Iodine is another big pharma lie. In some European countries they force iodine onto people by law (Germany, Switzerland for example) and some don’t (France for example). Lots of people suffer iodine poisoning in Switzerland and Germany. Several German websites are dedicated to this issue.

    Interesting to hear about iodine and potential fluoride displacement and detox. Does anyone know of any scientific research or evidence for pineal gland detox diets?? I’m talking about when one has reduced fluoride intake, built it binds to pineal tissue strongly, mineralising there. Some things like curcumin in turmeric and tamarind leaf reduce toxicity or help eliminate fluoride when ingested alongside it, but I’m talking about long term detox once man made fluoride consumption has stopped. Lots of claims seem to be made for various foods and supplements for detoxing the pineal gland, but as far as I can tell, these are all pure unfounded speculation and not based on any scientific research or evidence. It seems from this article iodine could play a role in this long term fluoride detox but I’d be interested to know of any scientific evidence to support any other substances or practices that may assist with this process.

    I took 16 drops 2% iodine and it caused my breast to spontaneously discharge. Day 2 I took 6 drops. Still some discharge but lighter. 51 years old partial hysterectomy, kept ovaries. Any idea why this would occur? Thanks.

    I took a large dose day one..16 drops 2%..and experienced breast discharge. Took 6 drops second day, still have breast discharge but lighter. I am 51. Had a hysterectomy, kept ovaries. Why would the iodine be causing this, what does it mean…thank you

    • Stop the use of iodine for at least a week, then start at a much lower dose. It is not common for breast discharge to occur. You started the iodine too much and too fast.

    Hi dr. Sircus, I have a question. Due to acné my son had a bad skin inflammation which I treated with Lugol’s. After treatment the skin got on one area (forehead) very dry and dark and two days later after showering this darkend dry layer came off and this area was looking red like new skin from a fresh healed wound or blister. Now I worry that this wil become a scar ..What should I do?

    I’m also wondering if this is a allergic reaction, or more like dermal herxing due to heavy metals or halogens that are already stored in the body and particular in this area? There are lots of articles written on the internet about allergic reaction to Iodine, but also that allergic reaction can be related to already being burdened with halogens and heavy metals. I would appreciate your opinion and advice on this.

      Sorry to hear about these problems with your son. Iodine allergy is very rare and often mistaken for a sensitivity to some other protein. For a complete evaluation of this problem you will need to obtain a consultation with Dr. Sircus to discuss the possibilities further.

    If the halogen displacement theory you cite is correct then it explains well how fluorine – with its lower atomic weight and higher clinical activity – displaces other halogens such as iodine. But, to be consistent with this theory, how can you then claim that iodine can be used to detoxify accumulated fluoride? If the reverse order is indeed impossible, how can iodine, with its higher atomic weight and lower clinical activity, ever be used to
    displace fluoride?

      I apologize if you’ve already found the answer.(sorta brief version) The other halogens compete at the receptor sites blocking iodine. As you know via chemistry 101, Iodine is the least reactive of the halogens. Now if you look at the formulation for lugol’s or Iodoral, it is not just Iodine, there is also Potassium Iodide. Both are important. When potassium iodide meets a more reactive halogen, the iodine is displaced taking you from potassium Iodide and chlorine to Potassium Chloride and iodine for instance. Potassium Chloride can be broken down in the body so you need iodine to compete at the receptor sites and you need to cleanse out your body while this is all happening.
      Dr.Sircus’ work is well founded and can be backed by chemistry. Please forgive my shortened version where i leave things out.

      My theory: it takes large quantities to do this. Iodine will go where it supposed to but only when there is much greater quantities than normal. It takes a lot to make up for the molecular weight problem

    Hello, does the iodine work by dislodging fluoride? Or binding to it for excretion? I am unsure which to go with considering the article mentions the higher atomic weight not being able to displace lower atomic weights (this needs to be clarified, it was asked below already and has been left unanswered)

    Could Iodine help with floraquinolone toxicity? I believe the floraquinolones have a floride component and the toxicity has many similar symptoms to flouride posioning.

    Thanks Claudia, useful info. By the way, tamarind apparently also helps to get rid of F. Some say excretion of fluoride increases after ingesting tamarind. But it is not clear if tamarind causes Fluoride to go out, or it is because tamarind itself contains high levels of Fluoride. I think it is easy to make some tests.

    I am mildly fluoride sensitive; my adult autistic son is severely affected by fluoride. We each have experienced intense and unexpected fluoride poisonings from food (ex: cocoa powder, organic chicken breast), in spite of our great efforts to avoid it.

    During an acute (suspected) fluoride poisoning, how much Iodine can be safely taken to offset the reaction? How long might it take to reduce the pain or symptoms? My son’s reactions can be felt in a few minutes; mine are delayed by several hours up to a few days.

    What might be an explanation as to why my son’s reaction is generally headaches and migraines while mine is specifically pain in my hip joints? I do not have arthritis and suffer from no joint pain whatsoever without the fluoride exposure, though my son has headaches from many other chemicals, too.

    Also, the article says, “It has been theorized that iodine deficiency is a causal factor of ADHD in babies of iodine-deficient mothers.” I’d challenge that to include the entire Autism Spectrum Disorders. In fact, if anyone would bother to study it, I think they’d find the problem much greater in mothers of ASD children. I would love to see studies on ASD prevalence in iodine-deficient areas and in relation to areas with water fluoridation.

      Some combination of calcium/ magnesium (mag hydroxide as in antacid tablets), nascent iodine and edible clay can all help in getting fluoride out of the body. ( Lugol’s iodine and Iodoral can be used for high dose treatment)

      Dr. David Brownstein, who has written books and studied the halides and iodine in the body, says that after only one dose of iodine the excretion of fluoride increased by 78%.

      What you are describing is a more acute exposure to fluoride by sensitive people, Your symptoms occur a few days after fluoride ingestion, and not within minutes as generally described in an emergency, so its more sub-acute. Your son’s symptoms occur more quickly so the treatment might be different (dosing) Activated charcoal is reported not to be helpful for this. The estimated toxic dose for fluoride ingestion is 5-10mg/kg of body weight, so this weight difference might account for the difference in symptoms between you and your son. Long term ingestion of fluoride also causes problems in the bone.

      Since high dose iodine treatment will reduce the amount of fluoride in the body rapidly, this is a possible course of emergency treatment, but without more information from you that can’t be easily determined. In high dose iodine supplementation, it is stated that amounts of 50-100 mg of iodine are safe, but generally people need to build up to that dose very gradually……so I am not sure if it is used for acute exposures as you describe. Many report on the Internet (Earth Clinic) that Apple Cider Vinegar with sodium bicarbonate , sodium thiosulfate and various other remedies work rapidly.

      Dr. Sircus could give a better recommendation for your situation including the dosages needed in a consultation as one size does not fit all.

    You are right Ingrid, I was going to ask the same. Fluorine is more electronegative (4.0) than all others atoms, so it attracts metallic ions with more power. no way that other halogens displace fluorine. I think the only way to get rid of fluoride in our bodies may be by ingesting foods or medications that contain some (harmless) metals with higher affinity for fluoride than Calcium or iron, etc. in our body. IN some pages I have read that Boron is the element we need.

      Yes Fluoride is very difficult to get rid of however the doctors practicing and doing their studies on high-dose iodine treatment, also known as: Orthoiodosupplementation have found that these much higher doses (minimum of 100 mg./day) of iodine can indeed assist in ridding the body of fluorides. Note this dosage is in milligrams/day and NOT micrograms/day. The RDA of 150 micrograms/day is only barely enough to prevent goiter, but not enough to impact all the other organs that need iodine.

      We need to both decrease our intake of fluorides from water, foods and medicines and increase the amount of iodine we take in to get rid of what’s already there.

        Iodine is good for removing bromine..not so good for flouride. I saw one study where one guy was able to excrete over 6 grams of bromine in a 3 month high iodine intake. He only excreted 24 mg of fluoride(= about .26mg/day). For comparison a person with fluoridated water usually has an intake of about 2 mg per day, retaining around half. Hardly effective.

    If the info from your latest blog is correct, then how can iodine, which has a heaver atomic weight kick out the other three halogens mentioned?? What is then the point of taking iodine for that purpose??

      funny how she didnt answer your question, because you make a good point, how can iodine replace the other 3 halogens. according to science it can’t.
