Medical Marijuana Saves Baby’s Life

ABC News reported:

Doctors said two-year-old Cash Hyde would likely die after they found a stage 4 brain tumor surrounding his optic nerve just a year ago this week. And he nearly did. After being subjected to seven different chemotherapy drugs, the little boy from Missoula, Montana suffered septic shock, a stroke and pulmonary hemorrhaging.

Cash was so sick he went 40 days without eating. His organs were threatening to shut down. His father, Mike Hyde, intervened, slipping cannabis oil into his son’s feeding tube. Cash, now three, made a miraculous recovery at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, but his father’s bold action—taken behind the doctors’ backs—has raised serious questions about a parent’s role in medical treatment.

He was given the highest possible doses of chemotherapy for two months. He lost his appetite and threw up eight to 10 times a day. “When he started the chemo, he was so sick,” said Hyde. “For the first six weeks, he was blind. But his tumor was shrinking… It’s the nastiest thing to see someone you love go through this.”

By September, Cash had not been eating for 40 days. “He was suffering terribly, and the doctors said it was the best they could do for him,” said Hyde, who asked doctors to stop the chemotherapy drugs. Instead, Hyde boiled up marijuana he had purchased in Montana with olive oil and measured 3 mm doses that he poured into his son’s G-tube twice a day. “Not only was it helpful, it was a godsend. In two weeks he was weaned of all the nausea drugs, and he was eating again and sitting up in and laughing,” according to Hyde, who said doctors called his son’s recovery “a miracle.”

There is no surprise in the above clinical picture. Doctors, medical officials and the American federal government have got to be kidding themselves and everyone else with their negative and closed-minded attitudes toward medical marijuana. Though medical marijuana laws are being passed in state after state, oncologists prefer to remain stupid about how it can be used for cancer patients.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main active component of marijuana, induces human glioma cell death through stimulation of autophagy.[1],[2]

On the federal level the government and even the president prefer to remain cruel and hateful about marijuana—so much so that they would rather see the entire country destroyed by the war against drugs than show any consideration or empathy toward the plight of cancer sufferers and their need for safe, low-cost and effective cancer treatments. The violence in Mexico is an example of how such a war can destroy a country from within.

Cannabis (THC) can be found in the prescription drug Marinol.

Combining the two most common cannabinoid compounds in cannabis boosts the effectiveness of treatments to inhibit the growth of brain cancer cells and increase the number of those cells that die off. Researchers at the California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute (CPMCRI) combined the non-psychoactive cannabis compound, cannabidiol (CBD), with ?9-tetrahyrdocannabinol (?9-THC), the primary psychoactive active ingredient in cannabis. They found the combination boosts the inhibitory effects of ?9-THC on glioblastoma, the most common and aggressive form of brain tumor and the cancer that claimed the life of Sen. Ted Kennedy last year.[3]

Is it really wise to treat children and adults with chemical poisons (chemotherapy) or radiation? Aren’t we already getting enough radiation exposure today thanks to the nuclear power industry (Fukushima)? Radiological departments need to dramatically reduce their use of radiation for diagnostic purposes and preferably eliminate its use for the treatment of cancer.

Today more than ever before we need a new paradigm for allopathic medicine! Since we cannot get rid of the field of contemporary medicine it needs to be reformed from the inside out and the only way to do that is to get into the underlying structure of its principles and practices and change them on a foundational level.

To be honest we know that this is as impossible as bringing Fukushima under control. It really is too much to expect doctors, especially pediatric oncologists, to understand that in an age of toxicity where patients are being heavily exposed to heavy metals, chemicals and radioactive particles, the last thing they need is exposure to more of the same via medical treatments and diagnostic procedures.

Dr. Linda Granowetter, a professor of pediatrics at New York University and chief of the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, told ABC News that Hyde’s intervention was “fascinating” but “somewhat bothersome. I think that the fact that he didn’t have the rapport and ability to be honest with the doctor is very troubling. Care is impeded when there is not complete trust.”

That this doctor actually believes what she is saying shows how impossible the situation is. How any doctor today could possibly believe that they merit such trust is beyond comprehension. Today doctors, especially pediatricians, are highly skilled in taking advantage of or abusing parents’ vulnerabilities and their fears about the medical treatment their children receive.

Thankfully the laws of natural selection are going to work their magic against such doctors and their treatments, for no one, including the government, is going to be able to afford them. Like big fat dangerous dinosaurs they will be crushed under the weight of the coming economic collapse.

Any doctor today who cannot grasp the reality that we are living in an age of toxicity full of poisonous chemicals, heavy metals and radioactive particles is a charlatan and a danger to society. It is a very bad situation that has just recently, and in the space of a very short period of time, gotten much worse.

Oncologists would rather have little kids like Cash die then have them take THC for their cancer.

Contemporary medicine is committing a form of mass suicide by not responding to the need to reduce people’s exposure to chemicals, radiation and heavy metals rather than adding to that exposure. Hopefully, a new medicine and a new field of dentistry will embrace as its most fundamental principle a reduction of exposure to poisons as a holy medical principle.

Dr. Linda Granowetter was quoted as saying, “We know from research that 30 to 60 percent of parents with children are giving them alternative meds like vitamins, shark tooth and herbs from Chinatown. That’s why we spend a lot of time asking parents what else they are giving kids and trying to be non-judgmental and work with them and guide them.” She said most pediatric oncologists are “open-minded” about alternative treatments.

I wonder who Granowetter thinks she is kidding with the mention of shark teeth and herbs from Chinatown. Did she mean shark cartilage? I have never heard of an open-minded pediatrician, have you? If you want to test them try speaking about your reasons to not vaccinate or try refusing chemo or radiation therapy once it has been indicated.

A boy with 11 tumors, who was sent home to die, survives after his grandparents’ alternative therapy treatments.

I get sick every time I hear a story of how oncologists have called in the police to force parents to treat their children with chemo and radiation therapy. It really is too bad that there is no one we can call to get rid of such doctors and institutions that support them with fascist fervor. Instead of Ghostbusters we need a group to bust up the field of pediatric oncology. The arrogance of pediatricians will continue to reverberate through our race consciousness as children are killed and families are ruined because of their brainless beliefs and practices.

Special Note: Please note in the story on ABC News that Mike Hyde made his own hemp oil. Rick Simpson, who continues to be a rock of integrity about the use of hemp oil for the cure of cancer, warns people to make it themselves because the quality of purchased oil is highly questionable. Simpson said:

“That’s the reason I tell the public it’s best to produce your own oil at this time, until we have some standards in place. If you produce the oil yourself, at least then you know you have the real thing and to a dying patient, the proper oil can mean the difference between life and death.

“The public must realize that all hemp is not created equal, the medicinal qualities from strain to strain can vary a great deal so the proper strains must be used. Also low-grade strains and clippings may produce a decent treatment for some skin conditions. But if you are trying to treat someone with a serious condition like cancer, low-grade oils just don’t cut it, only the best will do.

“These are trying times for us all, but soon things will settle down and the public will have their medicine. It’s just a matter of time now, for there is no way for the system to stop the truth from spreading. Properly produced hemp oil is the greatest medicine on this earth, and soon hemp will again take its rightful place in mainstream medicinal use.”

father’s bold action—taken behind the doctors’ backs—has raised serious questions about a parent’s role in medical treatment. or the doctors bold actions has raised serious questions with us parents. why are they still using chemo, why not more research into medical weed. i´ve been in pain for 7 years with knee trouble. took 2 drops of weed tinture and i feel soooooo much better. no side effects. just smooth flowing knees. wake up medical world and see the big parma compnies are selling you a lie. most of the junk they peddle makes you worse.

Where is the science? Who is to say the pot did this? Isn’t this the same kind of ‘science’ that makes indigenous people worship a stone phallus in the middle of town?

  • Paul

Thank God for a father with common sense who bravely did what was needed to save his child.
You set a wonderful example for all the others who will face similar situations and yet blindly follow those who the Bible describes as “thinking themselves to be wise they became fools”.

I’m extremely worried that people seriously still believe that chemotherapy and radiation cure cancer. Yes, chemo kills cancer cells, it kills ALL living cells. Radiation is a no brainer. Don’t people read the info on these so called ‘cancer cures’? Chemo is known to CAUSE cancer! It’s usually one of the side effects!
How on earth can people praise doctors who administer these drugs knowing what harm they cause?
The only doctor I have respect for is a doctor who keeps his or her oath “to do no harm”.
Lets not pretend these so called ‘cancer treatments’ are helping patients. They do nothing but cause pain and suffering and those who become ‘cured’ (cancer free for 5yrs) are deemed to either bad health for the rest of their days (unless they take steps to rebuild their immune system and so allow their body to heal itself) or yet another cancer diagnosis.
Any doctor who doesn’t know the harm caused by chemotherapy and radiation or uses the spineless excuse that “they have no choice” shouldn’t be a doctor in my eyes. Doctors shouldn’t be helping to kill their patients.
I was diagnosed with cancer 3yrs ago and was told that if I didn’t have ‘immediate’ treatment I would die. I found this lump when I was 17. I’m now 46. Common sense told me I wasn’t going anywhere overnight. At 17 it was diagnosed as a cyst. I had a biopsy in the late 90′s (which actually spread the cancer) – again, was told it was a cyst. Finally in 2009 I had yet another biopsy and was told it was cancer. The biopsy inflamed the tumour (as they often do) and so it grew very quickly to the size of a grapefruit. I declined treatment and used alternative treatments (not hemp oil) and it shrank alot. I removed (yes removed) part of it with an ‘illegal’ herbal paste called black salve. (research it, its been around for 2,000yrs and govts have made it illegal) The tumour is now very small and I am considering using it again to remove the rest, but would prefer if I didn’t have to due to the pain issue. My doctor won’t help with pain relief as I refused ‘treatment’.
In fact, my caring doctor doesn’t know whether I’m alive or dead because he has failed to contact me over the past 3yrs to see how I’m doing.
As it happens my health improved within weeks of being diagnosed due to a total detox, and I am extremely well.
I’ve lost count of the amount of friends/family who have been diagnosed and died a horrible death during the 3yrs that I’ve known I have cancer. Most have died within 6months – 1yr.
All of the people I know who have refused treatment (some diagnosed before I was) appear to be well.

Chemo is poison. Nurses and doctors have to wear protective clothing to handle it. Yet, its injected into the body of a person with an already failing immune system in the hope that it will kill the cancer before it kills the patient.
Y’know, I’d be a bit more convinced that doctors had patients interests at heart if they injected the chemo into the tumour itself but no, they usually inject it into somewhere totally different and so the poison has to travel all around the body before it finds the fast growing cells known as cancer.

Oxygen also kills cancer, all doctors know this, so why don’t they inject oxygen into a tumour? It’s also totally harmless – not sure if it can be patented though…………..
    So many questions.

Use of Maryuana must always be under medical supervision because it can cause serious diseases and become a vice rather than a cure

    • Taylor Giovanni

All I have to say to you is no. Do more research man, marijuana has been used since the dawn of timeand causes no diseases.

    • Brian Molokai

      Wow, what a ignorant statement.

  • Lauren McD

I truly believe the government keeps marijuana illegal because it DOES help so much medically and that means losing all the money they make off pharmaceuticals every year! The real war on drugs is the prescription pills that are killing thousands every year!! I know so many people my age (23!) who get hurt, get on pain pills and next thing you know they are heroin addicts. It’s sickening.

This is a beautiful article and a great case study. I agree with a lot of it and hope to see more advances with alternative therapies. As a health care profession, I felt a need to defend some points. First of all, for those who want to say “do your research”, I find it is ironically hypocritical that you can blame us (health care professionals) who are on the front line. Do your research!! We work long hours and help your mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, brothers, sisters, etc. live longer and healthier lives. We didn’t make these drugs, we are the ones who are helping give the only opportunities that we know, by research and scientific evidence, to help save people from cancers. Blame corporate drug companies, insurance companies and the government if you don’t like the chemotherapy or radiation. But you can not deny it is saving lives. Keep an open-mind as you suggest and see the good in what chemo has done for millions of lives. And as this author suggests, “Oncologists would rather have little kids like Cash die then have them take THC for their cancer.”, how dare he or anyone who commented and agreed that oncologist would ever want a child to die is absurd. We do the best work we possibly can with the resources we have. We only fear that intervening with alternative therapies without telling your doctor could potentially cause more harm if not forewarned. Please direct your anger at the people who control government policies on health care and not the people working with these patients day in and day out.

  • ruud van egdom

and god created earth and all living things.
grow up.next our governments wil say that kiwi,s are bad for us because of the vitamins.if it is their child they wil do anything to save them.

it is time to stop making crimanals out of sick people

I’ve never understood why people are so incredibly biased when it comes to this herb. It IS, afterall, an herb. I don’t think all doctors are against it’s use at all. The ones that are….have a bigger problem. The point is that it’s been used over and over again with positive results. Why not use it? This is a great story of survival and love. Thank you for printing it. We’re getting there, state by state…one at a time. If I ever got cancer I’d want to live in a state that provides care including all that’s available for me (safely).

  • Heather

This is a miraculous story, and I am so very happy that this infant lived to tell the tale one day, but I cannot agree with breaking federal laws in general. There are plenty of other legal medicines that stimulate appetite and relieve pain – exactly what cannabis does, except without breaking the law.

    • Jason

Do you seriously think that the cannabis oil only induced appetite and reduced nausea? WOW. You are on the net, use google and figure out the Truth.

    • Robert Leclaire

Blindly following the law simply because it is the law is WRONG.
Just so you know, nothing the Nazi’s did was against the law.

    • Jordan

just because it’s against the law doesn’t mean anything. this is just
like alcohol prohibition. everyone was drinking when it was illegal.
same for marijuana. it’s a million times safer than alcohol, and if i could
cure my son from the hell he would have experienced, i would have.
it’s people like you that think just because it’s illegal, think it’s totally
bad. this is why it’s still illegal.

    • steve

You are so ignorant, like everyone else says, just because it’s against the law doesn’t mean it’s bad. You are just another one of those blind followers of those who lie to you and then come around and stab you in the back

    • Brian Molokai

I’m very surprise that there is a lot of people like you who don’t understand the benefits of this plant. Please wake up and research

  • Lauren

While I wholeheartedly agree with the main point of this article, I feel the need to raise a few objections. First off, the way the author suggests that all doctors are the scum of the earth and would rather watch patients suffer than offer effective treatments is just ridiculous. A few probably do feel that way, but to classify an entire profession of people in that way just seems wrong. Secondly, I hope that no one takes the author’s medical advice seriously. Of COURSE chemotherapy and radiation are incredibly damaging, but unfortunately at this point they are the only thing that has been proven kill cancer cells (and by “proven,” I mean multiple studies appearing in peer-reviewed journals, not popular media articles). While THC should undoubtedly have its place in cancer treatment, there has been no study showing that it is effective on its own (i.e. without chemotherapy or radiation).

    • Jason

You’re being ignorant. Allopathy is a dying art. Blunt trauma and massive woundings are the only effective indicators for allopathy. There ARE many studies that have found the introduction of cannabinoids into cancer cells have halted and stimulated death of these cancerous cells, without chemo. Do your research and save yourself and your community a gross load of darwin awards, /i dare you.

    • Skushy

“Secondly, I hope that no one takes the author’s medical advice seriously. Of COURSE chemotherapy and radiation are incredibly damaging, but unfortunately at this point they are the only thing that has been proven kill cancer cells (and by “proven,” I mean multiple studies appearing in peer-reviewed journals, not popular media articles).”

Incredibly damaging. Really, so lets not use a medicine that has been published in several peer-reviewed journals to be effective? So what you are saying is we should ignore the truth, and let ourselves and loved ones be subjected to an incredibly damaging treatment vs a treatment which is not near as damaging? I think mor epeople have died from chemo and radiation treatments than have from the use of cannabis. What a close dminded statement, you must be either be a pharma rep, a politician, or working to be one or the other.

      • Nate

Look, marijuana has many great attributes in the medical world, and in many states it has been opened up for cancer treatment in hand with other medication, especially to fight nausea associated with chemo and radiation. But, the fact is, studies show it is simply not as effective as chemo in killing cancer cells. My family did the research when my mom got cancer and chemo saved her life. There’s millions of other stories like hers. I’m sure cannabanoids have also saved lives, but not on the same scale, nor would they if they were implemented more widely because of the success ratio (aforementioned). Also please don’t call it allopathy, it’s pejorative and if it’s effected your life or someone else’s for the better, it’s kind of offensive. The counter-term is heroic for a reason, and if you don’t want to call it that, stick with conventional.

That said, when times seem dark, alternative medicines can provide hope and in some cases a solution. Great article for shedding light on that, but you don’t need to spread spread a penumbra over the rest of medicine to do it.

  • Jillian Galloway

On June 17, 1971, President Nixon told Congress that “if we cannot destroy the drug menace in America, then it will surely destroy us.” After forty years of trying to destroy “the drug menace in America” we still *haven’t* been able to destroy it and it still *hasn’t* destroyed us. Four decades is long enough to realize that on this important issue President Nixon was wrong! All actions taken as a result of his invalid and paranoid assumptions (e.g. the federal marijuana prohibition) should be ended immediately!

It makes no sense for taxpayers to fund the federal marijuana prohibition when it *doesn’t* prevent people from using marijuana and it *does* make criminals incredibly wealthy and incite the Mexican drug cartels to murder thousands of people every year.

We need legal adult marijuana sales in supermarkets, gas stations and pharmacies for exactly the same reason that we need legal alcohol and tobacco sales – to keep unscrupulous black-market criminals out of our neighborhoods and away from our children. Marijuana must be made legal to sell to adults everywhere that alcohol and tobacco are sold.

    • CherylP.

We ARE talking about it as MEDICINE that helps get people WELL, not some recreational fun time party drug!

      • steve

Yea except its also a very common recreational use that is not going to stop EVER and until it is legalized the money is going straight into the criminals hands. Actually all drug should be decriminalized to eliminate the black market and for doctors to be able to prescribe a;; drugs to wain people off to help addiction, because studies show this is the most effective way to reduce drug use. Portugal legalized marijuana and decriminalized all drugs and their overall drug use went down, crime went down, and the earliest age of first users went up! You dumb parents are so closed-minded and think that legalizing drugs would be the worst thing in the world to protect your children but it just makes it worse having them illegal. Parents of all people should know if you tell kids not to do something and make it forbidden then that is exactly what they are going to do! How about you just legalize and then educate, the scientifically proven most effective plan!

  • melissa

thank you much for this article.

I will send this to everyone I know. There are too many people living in “The world is flat” Who have formed opinions on everything from sexuality to medicine.
The world in general does not want to change anything. What…. change your mind? About Marijuana??? Even if you prove it …most will not change their minds. They believe that is a weakness…..god forbid.
