Everyone want to see yourself in a mirror, a special type of mirror that shows you not the superficial physical appearance but a mirror that shines directly on what is going on in your inner world of emotions, attitudes, needs and personality? If your answer is yes, take the online Lüscher Color Test.

I have used this test for over thirty years, and though it is accurate most of the time, sometimes it needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Our moods and choices often change but the test does mirror us pretty well. There is usually something to learn when we look in the mirror provided by the test. Sometimes though, our life depends on us seeing ourselves a little more objectively so we can make needed changes.

I wrote once that one of the great challenges in medicine is to understand the complexity of causes that lead to cancer. One of these causes has to do with us, our behavior, attitudes, and personality and stress levels. When the body is under stress, it releases hormones — such as adrenaline and cortisol that cause suppression of our immune system. This test will pick up some of the main stress points in one’s life. I now ask all those who do consultations with me to do the online test and at my Sanctuary, I do a form of therapy that addresses personal issues on a deep level.

The Luscher Color Test was devised by psychologist Max Luscher in 1969. Its effectiveness has been known in advertising and industry (automotive and fashion) for years. Now you can gain some practical insight into color psychology with this well-known color test – online. It is uncanny what this test can reveal (consistently).

Dr. Max Lüscher writes, “The Luscher Color Test, despite the remarkable ease and speed with which it can be administered, is a "deep" psychological test, developed for the use of psychiatrists, psychologists, physicians and those who are professionally involved with the conscious and unconscious characteristics and motivations of others. It is NOT a parlor game, and most emphatically, it is not a weapon to be used in a general contest of "one-upmanship."

The Lüscher-Color-Diagnostic measures a person’s psycho-physical state, his or her ability to withstand stress, to perform, and to communicate. It uncovers the cause of psychological stress, which can lead to physical symptoms. Using 5015 precise definitions, the selections from among these pre-determined test colors measure the state of 34 personality traits, some of which lie outside the realm of the conscious.

Because the color selections are guided in an unconscious manner, they reveal the person as he or she really is, and not as he or she perceives him – or herself, or as he, or she would like to be perceived, which occurs when questions are asked directly or by questionnaires.

‘Basic Colors Should be Preferred. The four basic colors, blue, green, red and yellow (1,2,3 and 4), representing as they do fundamental psychological needs – the need for contentment and affection, the need to assert oneself, the need to act and to succeed and the need to look forward and aspire – are all of special importance.  They should therefore all occur in the first four or five places of the test when selected by a healthy, normally-balanced individual who is free from conflicts and repressions.’ (p.32).

Why does the color test work? There are seven biological energy centers that are situated along the spine, which act as prisms to breakdown the background non-visible light into the spectrum colors. Each master endocrine gland is associated with a color as are different traits in our personalities. Light and color propels our evolution, our physical healing and defines who and what we are.

Lűscher’s brand of psychoanalysis is founded on the Freudian notion of the ‘Unconscious’: that component of our psyches with the power to ‘repress’ for us memories or information we would otherwise find painful to process consciously.  Numerous attempts have been made to tap into, and interpret the nature of this mysterious psychic underworld, from hypnosis and dream analysis to patterns observed in inkblots.

Even if we share with Lűscher a belief in the Freudian Unconscious, we might still notice a fundamental problem with the design of the Color Test – a problem that will arise precisely because of unconscious associations.   Before making their card selections, Lűscher’s testes are urged to free their minds from associations they might hold between a color and some personal meaning that color might carry.  For example, a Manchester United football supporter might instinctively opt for red as their first choice, just as an environmentalist might pick green and a civil rights activist, say, chooses black.

The Lüscher Color Diagnostic has been in clinical use since 1947, and has been translated into 27 languages. I have written a series on the different colors and their psychological and spiritual meanings.
