Scientific researchers tell us, “Hydrogen is extremely unique since it has the capability to act at the cellular level. Hydrogen is qualified to cross the blood brain barrier, to enter the mitochondria, and even has the ability to translocate to the nucleus under certain conditions. Once in these ideal locations of the cell, previous studies have shown that hydrogen exerts antioxidant, anti-apoptotic, anti-inflammatory, and cytoprotective properties that are beneficial to the cell.”[1]

In terms of medicine small is good, as Nano science has tended to show. In the case of hydrogen, we are talking about the ultimate in smallness proving to be the biggest medical breakthrough of the 21st century. Hydrogen appears in the top left corner of the periodic table, and is denoted as 1. This means that hydrogen is the smallest, simplest, and most fundamental element. This makes molecular hydrogen (H2) the simplest molecule in existence.

Interestingly, water, which is essential to life, is formed by the combination of oxygen (a powerful oxidizer) and hydrogen (a powerful reducer). It tends to make sense that molecular hydrogen has high-powered therapeutic potential as does water itself. Hydrogen is a novel and innovative therapeutic tool and can be used like intravenous vitamin C therapy except it is vastly less expensive, and can be used every day around the clock—with every sip of water.

Each drink of hydrogen water will flush our bodies with trillions of hydrogen molecules. H2 is the most effective molecule to scavenger or pair up with other molecules in the body that need to be neutralized. Hydrogen therapy is safe as there is no upper limit of use. The more water you drink (up to 8 glasses a day) infused with hydrogen the better, as the byproduct of combined electrons is water. Each molecule of H2 will neutralize 2 hydroxyl radicals into H2O, hydrating your cells in the process.

Hydrogen water at a concentration of 1.6 mg/L would have more “antioxidant” molecules than 100 mg of vitamin C, as there are more total molecules in 1.6 mg of hydrogen compared 100 mg of vitamin C. For this and other reasons many believe that molecular hydrogen, which is the ultimate energy source of the sun, is the most potent quick acting medicine on the planet to improve your energy, reduce oxidative stress and combat disease.

Now one can drink their water at 2 ppm (2.0 mg/L) simply by dropping a tablet in their water. This offers an evolution in medicine that is going to help many people. It elevates oral medicine to the level of intravenous medicine because of the ultra-quick absorption and dispersion deep into the cells. Now water can become the ultimate medicine, especially if you add more magnesium, bicarbonate, iodine and liquid selenium into the mix. Mineral laden molecular hydrogen water is the ultimate water for healing and rejuvenation.

Molecular hydrogen is the newest miracle of medical science and is easy, convenient and safe in the form of hydrogen water. Hydrogen is intriguing. It powers the sun in fusion, it is key to ATP production within the mitochondria, and it is the father of all other elements. Hydrogen, along with oxygen, has been intrinsically involved with evolution of life in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes (e.g. hydrogenases, hydrogosomes, mitochondria, etc.). The extremes of oxygen and hydrogen provide balance between oxidation and reduction, which is vital to life. The most important and basic thing to know about hydrogen is that it negates the toxicity of oxygen.

Hydrogen in the body is mostly bound to carbon, oxygen and nitrogen. It is part of almost every molecule in your body: DNA, proteins, sugars, fats. The hydrogen bond - which forms between atoms that "share" a hydrogen atom, is one of the most important interactions that makes biological molecules behave as they do. A hydrogen molecule consists of two bonded hydrogen atoms.

Hydrogen is an important factor in the regulation of physiology. It has protective effects on cells and organs including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic (protective against cell death) effects. Molecular Hydrogen should be considered as part of the treatment plan for conditions associated with or developing from inflammation and oxidative stress. This includes metabolic syndrome and its associated conditions, chronic pain, decreases in cognitive function and abnormal cell division.

Therapeutic hydrogen has been applied by different delivery methods including straightforward inhalation, drinking hydrogen dissolved in water and injection with hydrogen-saturated saline. Ohsawa et al. discovered that hydrogen gas has antioxidant and anti-apoptotic properties that protect the brain against ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury and stroke by selectively neutralizing hydroxyl radicals

Molecular Hydrogen is an ideal antioxidant molecule for oxidative stress in the mitochondria due to its small size. It is one of the very few, if not only antioxidant molecules that can reach the inside of the mitochondria. H2 directly protects mitochondria that are exposed to reactive oxygen species. Preliminary clinical trials show that drinking hydrogen-dissolved water seems to improve the pathology of mitochondrial disorders. In the presence of increased H2, mitochondrial energy metabolism functions against oxidative stress to efficiently expend glucose and fatty acid. Drinking H2-water stimulates energy metabolism as measured by O2 consumption and CO2 production.

This is what I would call the ultimate testimony from a doctor about what you can expect if we start supplementing with the ultimate anti-oxidant hydrogen. Hydrogen medicine is beyond even Nano medicine for it is the ultimate in smallness. It is very interesting, when we revisit the water ionizer story, that it is not the high pH alkalinity of their water output (because there is little alkalinity (provided by minerals) even at high pH levels) but the high levels of hydrogen, but only if you drink the water right away. Otherwise, the hydrogen gas in the water will evaporate out quite quickly. What this means is that you can either buy bottles of hydrogen water (lots of shipping costs but still as a medicine it is worth every penny) or you can make your own hydrogen water at home with a water ionizer.

Antioxidant, Anti-tumor Cancer Treatment

Acute oxidative stress induced by ischemia-reperfusion or inflammation causes serious damage to tissues, and persistent oxidative stress is accepted as one of the causes of many common diseases including cancer. Hydrogen (H2) has great potential as an antioxidant in preventive and therapeutic applications. H2 selectively reduces the hydroxyl radical, the most cytotoxic of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and effectively protected cells; however, H2 does not react with other ROS, which possess physiological roles. The inhalation of H2 gas markedly suppressed brain injury by buffering the effects of oxidative stress. Thus, H2 can be used as an effective antioxidant therapy; owing to its ability to rapidly diffuse across membranes, it can reach and react with cytotoxic ROS and thus protect against oxidative damage.[1]

Hydrogen has an advantage over other antioxidants because it is such a tiny molecule: it is able to penetrate cell membranes, and can easily enter deep into cell components, such as mitochondria and the nucleus, where other antioxidants are not able to reach.

Since persistent oxidative stress is one of the major causes of most lifestyle-related diseases, cancer and the aging process molecular, hydrogen is one of the most basic medicines doctors can employ. Hydrogen protects cells by neutralizing hydroxyl radicals, while leaving other ROS alone to fulfill their necessary physiological roles.

ROS are involved in metastatic processes including invasion of cancer cells into surrounding primary tumor sites. Generated ROS regulates tumor progression, indicating that ROS is situated upstream in many signaling pathways including the pathway involved in metastasis. At the tumor sites, large amount of ROS are produced by activated neutrophils and macrophages in the inflammatory response.

Hydrogen water erases ROS indispensable for tumor cell growth. Scientists who have studied its antitumor effects used hydrogen in combination with hyperthermia at 42°C and platinum colloid and found it to be potent as an anti-tumor agent.[2] Therapeutic opportunities of hydrogen increases in the presence of specific catalysts or heat thus for cancer and other serious diseases it should be used in the context of a full protocol.

Hydrogen, Inflammation and Pain

The cells that are repeatedly exposed to inflammatory mediators will have the genes that code for inflammatory response proteins switched on, and thus be in a constant state of inflammation. This leads to diseases and health conditions that are strongly linked to inflammation, including asthma and cardiovascular diseases. Some of the molecules in the body that can instigate a change in gene expression are: Nf-kB, TNFa, and reactive nitrogen species such as nitric oxide and peroxynitrite.

Hydrogen indirectly affects gene expression through its actions to modulate molecules that have a direct epigenetic effect, Molecular Hydrogen can:
