Drink Coffee and Live Longer

Published on September 11, 2017

Cup of coffee

We coffee drinkers, especially us older ones, can drink each cup knowing that we are going to live longer because of it. It turns out coffee is one of the healthiest drinks, medicinal in fact, anti-aging medicine at its best. Adults who drink four cups of coffee a day have a 64% lower risk of dying according to a new 10-year Spanish study, compared to those who rarely or never drink coffee. The effect is strongest for people over 45.

Presented at the European Society of Cardiology Congress in Barcelona, researchers found that those who drank the most coffee (four or more cups a day) were 64% less likely to die during the study than those who drank the least (seldom or never) coffee. Overall, every two cups of coffee people consumed per day was associated with a 22% lower risk of death over 10 years.

That association remained even when the researchers controlled for factors including gender, smoking status, and whether the coffee drinkers added sugar to their coffee. Dr. Adela Navarro, a cardiologist at Hospital de Navarra in Pamplona, Spain, says drinking four cups of coffee a day “can be part of a healthy diet in healthy people,” she says.

Other studies published in the Annals of Internal Medicine in July also found that regular coffee consumption was associated with a reduced risk of death—one in a U.S. population that included African-American, Japanese-Americans, Latino, and white participants, and one in a European population spanning 10 countries. An earlier study in 2012 of over 400,000 people, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, reported that coffee consumption is associated with a 10% reduction in all-cause mortality at 13-year follow-up.

The turning point for coffee came with the publication in 2008 of a Harvard-led study, that examined data on over 130,000 participants from the Nurses’ Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow up Study who were followed for about 20 years. The results showed regularly consuming up to 6 cups of coffee per day (containing around 100 mg caffeine per 8 oz. cup) was not linked with increased deaths in either men or women, from any cause, or death from cancer, or from cardiovascular disease. Until recently, the coffee news was that it was not bad but now we, all 250 million of us North Americans, and countless people around the globe, can drink up the good news about how our coffee is adding to our lives.

Coffee Prevents Heart Disease and Stroke

Coffee ingestion is, on average, about one third of that of tap water in North America and Europe. (International Journal of Cancer) Some of the evidence that has emerged in recent years suggests that coffee consumption may lower the risk of heart disease and stroke. A Kaiser Permanente study presented at an American Heart Association conference found coffee drinkers were less likely to be hospitalized for heart rhythm disturbances.

In 2012, a US study found that drinking coffee in moderation, may also protect slightly against heart failure. For women, coffee drinking may mean a lower risk of stroke.

Researchers in Sweden followed over 30,000 women for 10 years found those who drank more than one cup of coffee per day appeared to have a 22 to 25% lower risk of stroke, compared to non-drinkers.

Good Coffee & Great Coffee

I have been drinking coffee since I was five years old. My mother started me on Coffee Time Syrup and I have been addicted ever since. Unfortunately, it took another sixty years before I learned to enjoy coffee without the sugar and before I learned that there is coffee and there is coffee. The sugar covered up what today one might consider bad coffee.

Good coffee is of course organic and great coffee is made from fresh roasted and then ground organic beans. The fresher the healthier, however, how one makes one’s coffee matters a lot. Two things had to happen for me to learn about good coffee. First, my 14-year-old son became a coffee barista and he uses the below coffee machine to make fantastic tasting coffee even when using less than perfect beans.

After 55 years of drinking coffee, it was amazing to watch someone measure out the coffee, weigh the amount of water and milk used, and even use the exact right temperature of water to not harm the coffee with excessive heat. He also has an expresso machine, which we are not using because of the low voltage coming into the house.

The Healthiest Coffee is also the most Convenient

This past year I have been also been turned on to the first seed infused coffee in the world. Fused black coffee is an organic instant coffee that has its health profile beefed up with seed nutrition. Thanks to modern science, we now have a premium organic coffee that has been nutritionally augmented. Not only does it taste great but also it is very convenient, like instant coffee, yet it is not processed and impure like most instant coffees. Each cup comes in its own satchel you just rip open and pour in the hot water, milk or both, no filter needed.

Rain International formulated a balanced blend of grapefruit seed, grape seed, pomegranate seed, and black cumin seed. Each seed carries its own wealth of benefits and nutrients. By combining the four seed oils into each coffee bean, they have created a supercharged source of nutrition that takes your normal cup of coffee and turns it into an added source of health and wellness.

Each coffee bean takes a bath in a proprietary blend of liquid seeds (seed nutrition) soaking the exterior. The final step involves a specialized vacuum that pulls air out of the beans and leaves room the seed blend will occupy. The seed blend is then pulled into the pores of the coffee bean and fills its honeycombed interior. This saturates each coffee bean with a healthful blend that supercharges your coffee, elevating it to an entirely new level of wellness.

What I found is to have the same taste, quality and precision of my son’s specially prepared coffee is to use only half a satchel, perhaps sixty percent, depending on how one likes their coffee, with a little water and a lot of milk. Then it is perfect and as good as the coffee my son makes for me. Instead of making a pot of coffee (which I have been doing for decades) and drinking old coffee (not a good idea) when my son is not around I just simply make one cup for myself—fast and easy.

Special Note: As I finished this essay, I received news that Rain International will discontinue their coffee. Will miss it! Supply is thus limited and this will be the last time any of us will be able to get some. To order you go to http://safalab.com/product/fused-coffee/ and use as a code “Drms17”
