Nutritional Deficiencies and Toxicity: The Silent Collapse Beneath Every Modern Disease

Published on February 23, 2026

We are the terrain and the terrain is us. In medicine, this is a revolutionary thought because modern medicine ignores the terrain and goes for the kill, or in pharmaceutical terms, goes for the poison. That takes us back 400 years, to a time when medicine subscribed to the philosophy that the dose makes the poison. Yet healing and health are about something else; it’s about avoiding as many poisons as possible, which translates into avoiding doctors and the dangerous drugs and vaccines they like to dish out like cotton candy.

What supports our terrain? Well, it’s simple. Oxygen, carbon dioxide, magnesium, bicarbonates, iodine, sulphur, selenium, the B vitamins, Vitamin C, and D, which implies light and the sun, (just to begin the list) all suggest and support life and health where chemo, radiation and many of the nasty things found in vaccines destroy or tear us away from health and a happy life well lived. There is a long lineup of nutrients and health practices that support healing, and an endless list of drugs that tear down our terrain. Ruin us. Kill us or lead us to a life of misery, pain, and dependence on drugs.

Oxygen is a vital nutrient for our cells, on which
our lives depend in a moment-to-moment sense.
Healthy Oxygen levels depend on Carbon Dioxide.

Americans are undoubtedly the champions of disease, for they have the worst diets, the most vaccines, the most dangerous and numerous tests like CAT and PET scans, and take the most medications of any people on Earth, and the statistics sustain this view. Instead of supporting health, Americans, and of course, many others around the world, support the pharmaceutical paradigm that tears down health. So we are talking about totally divergent philosophies and practices of medicine. In the United States, the FDA cannot even stop the placement of neurotoxic mercury fillings inches from the brain.

If the fish tank is dirty, you clean the tank; you don’t medicate the fish.

Many have stepped up to the plate to assure us that modern chronic disease is not mysterious, not genetic bad luck, and not inevitable. It is, in large part, a direct result of our civilization, or put more simply, our lack of civilization, and because of complete and deliberate medical ignorance. The basic mechanisms of disease are identifiable—toxicity, even of the emotionally stressful kind, running smack into nutritional deficiencies.

Terrain Medicine

In terrain medicine, symptoms are not flaws to be silenced with toxic drugs but messages alerting us to nutritional deficiencies and environmental disharmony. Healing is achieved not by “killing” but by cleaning, re-oxygenating, rehydrating, remineralizing, and restoring electrical integrity. Ultimately, terrain theory transforms medicine from warfare to stewardship. Disease is therefore not an invader—it is feedback from our inner terrain asking to be restored.

Even within orthodox research, the terrain principle appears in disguise: blood viscosity predicts stroke better than LDL; mitochondrial redox imbalance drives nearly every chronic disease; low carbon dioxide levels correlate with panic, arrhythmia, hypoxia, and inflammation.

My Natural Allopathic Medical approach is a system of medical thought that brings people back to health by addressing the fundamentals of life. Built into the very structure of life is a delicate balance of minerals essential to cell formation, growth, and function. When critical minerals, vitamins, and other nutrients are missing or not present in sufficient amounts, our bodies fail to metabolize and convert essential nutrients into energy optimally.

In the vast landscape of human health, deficiencies are not mere footnotes—they are the silent architects of collapse, the unseen voids that erode the terrain of the body and spirit. For decades, I have mapped this terrain in my work, from Transdermal Magnesium Therapy to Hydrogen Medicine, reclaiming the essentials that modern medicine dismisses as afterthoughts. The secret to recovery from all diseases is found in healing through the fulfillment of nutritional law.

Over 30% of US adults don’t get enough Vitamin D, and that probably understates the extent of the deficiency and the lack of healthy sun exposure. If a person is chronically ill, we are talking about a 90 to 99 percent chance of health-destroying magnesium deficiencies. We can say the same about iodine deficiencies, and the list goes on over the horizon of health and into the dark clouds of disease.

A general theory of deficiencies needs to emerge; it’s a missing link that medical schools left out of their doctors’ training. Health is not the absence of invaders or the suppression of symptoms, but the presence of harmony in the body’s fundamental elements. When these elements—minerals, gases, vitamins, and nutrients—are depleted, the terrain falters, inviting disease. The foundation of human health is built on essentials, the basic elements the body requires for life. However, it is still hard for many doctors to believe that disease and nutrition are intimately linked.

Unfortunately, there is a big problem with food today. Besides a large slide in nutritional values of food, there is the horrific contamination with antibiotics, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, many environmental poisons, and heavy metals, including neurotoxic mercury.

There Are No Substitutes For Vital Nutrients

Document labeled “Nutrition Requirements” with a stethoscope placed on top.

There is nothing that addresses magnesium deficiencies but magnesium. No drug or vaccine can address nutritional deficiencies. The strength of the cells’ adaptive capacity is directly related to nutritional sufficiency. Our resistance to both chronic and acute diseases is directly related to nutritional sufficiency. Our health depends on what fuels life, and there is no vaccine or pharmaceutical drug that feeds us.

Deficiencies in minerals, vitamins, and other nutrients invite pharmaceutical and environmental poisons to overwhelm our bodies. There is no comparison between using drugs with devastating side effects, even at low dosage, and concentrated natural nutritional substances. Nutrition is life-serving, whereas pharmaceuticals are mitochondrial poisons.

Minerals are the building blocks of our bodies. They are required for
body structure, fluid balance, protein structures, and to produce
hormones. They are a key to the health of every body system and function.
They act as co-factors, catalysts, or inhibitors of all enzymes in the body.

Deficiency is not merely a lack of vitamins or minerals; it is the biochemical loss of cell integrity. When cells no longer have the materials to maintain their electrical charge and structural coherence, the body devolves from a beautiful orchestra to abrasive music. When those essentials of life fall short, disease rises.

The body does not malfunction out of nowhere. Cells do not lose the ability to regulate sugar, produce energy, repair DNA, or maintain membrane integrity without a cause. Yet the dominant medical model rarely asks the most basic question: What fundamental ingredient of biochemistry is no longer present in sufficient quantity to sustain normal cell physiology?

When we examine nearly every major chronic disease—diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, neurodegeneration, immune dysfunction, and chronic inflammation and see the handwriting on the wall, toxicity running smack into nutritional deficiencies, we can also assume that the more aggressive and late-stage a disease, the worse the nutritional shortcoming will be.

Any fighter pilot of a high-performance plane knows that fuel quality is mission-critical, and the same is true for our cells. The idea is to feed them with a super-rich mixture of full-spectrum nutrients. As we shall see, when we concentrate on specific nutrients, we can turn them into the best medicine. A quick look at emergency rooms and ICU wards illustrates this, where they use IV bicarbonate, potassium, and magnesium to save lives.

Inside the emergency room and intensive care wards, where many believe some of the most accurate medicine is practiced, are common but extraordinarily safe and effective substances that save lives every day. Interestingly, no one has thought to harness these medical super weapons against chronic disease or cancer.

Magnesium chloride, iodine, and sodium bicarbonate are basic emergency room substances. In the emergency room, medicines must be safe while delivering an instant, life-saving burst of healing power. Obviously, if they are safe and strong enough for emergencies, they will help us with both chronic and acute diseases.

A general theory of deficiencies posits that deficiencies are not isolated lapses but a cascade of interconnected failures in the body’s ecology—the terrain, as Antoine Béchamp called it. Modern life’s poisons—depleted soils, processed foods, stress, pollution, and pharmaceuticals—strip these essentials, creating an epidemic of deficiencies.

Emergency and intensive care professionals are highly trained to appreciate medical priorities. They know the first thing they need to do when a person stops breathing, there is no debate, no discussion. When we step away from emergency procedures, allopathic medicine gets very confused about priorities, and that’s why Despite the investment of hundreds of billions of dollars in research, not even a single degenerative disease has been cured in the past hundred years,” wrote Dr. Alan Greenberg.

Cancer

Every chronic disease in modern life—from heart failure to Alzheimer’s to cancer—can be traced back to one central storm: insulin resistance. It’s not just about blood sugar; it’s about cellular congestion, metabolic suffocation, and the slow corrosion of energy itself.

Drs. Edward Bauman and Helayne Waldman, authors of The Whole – Food Guide For Breast Cancer Survivors -A Nutritional Approach to Preventing Recurrence, say, “Good nutrition is the very foundation of cancer resistance, a vital, life-enhancing component of lifelong tissue growth as well as tissue damage, repair, and recovery. For the woman whose life has been turned upside down by a cancer diagnosis and treatment, optimal nutrition is the key. Combining optimal bodily nutrition from fresh, whole foods with soul nutrition from kindness and compassion communicates to our genes that we are committed to making the most of life.”

Dr. Joel D. Wallach says, “Our immune system requires all 90 nutrients (60 minerals, 16 vitamins, 12 essential amino acids and two essential fatty acids) to maintain and repair itself to protect us from infectious diseases (i.e., colds, flu, strep throat, “flesh-eating” Streptococcus A, Epstein-Barr virus, HIV, Candida albicans, rheumatoid arthritis, Herpes virus, cancer, etc.). The healthiest and longest-lived cultures on the planet consistently consume high levels of 60 to 72 minerals with each meal, generation after generation, and the result is drug-free, crime-free, disease-free people who live long, productive, and joyful lives and who can fulfill their genetic potential for longevity!”

According to the Credit Suisse Research Institute’s 2013 study, “Sugar: Consumption at a Crossroads,” as much as 40 percent of US healthcare expenditures are for diseases directly related to sugar overconsumption. The fact that sugar and obesity are linked to an increased risk of cancer is now well-recognized, but oncologists still do not talk about diet to their patients.

Conclusion

Ultra-processed foods have been repeatedly tied to adverse health outcomes. Two studies from France[i] and Spain[ii], both published in the British Medical Journal, show that consuming convenient junk food has been linked to increased heart disease and early death. Junk food creates nutritional stress and deficiencies.

Researchers found that those who consumed more than four servings a day of ultra-processed foods had a 62% increased risk of early mortality. Each additional serving of ultra-processed food beyond four servings increased mortality by 18%. So the more junk food you eat, the greater the chance you will suffer from a severe disease and die from it.

Poor diet is associated with 1 in 5 deaths worldwide. That’s equivalent to 11 million deaths a year, making unhealthy eating habits responsible for more deaths than tobacco and high blood pressure.
